Nuclear Energy and Democracy

David Miliband, the British Foreign Secretary, and Condoleezza Rice, US Secretary of State, have stepped up warnings to Iran to come clean about its nuclear programs soon or face new sanctions. There is nothing irregular about Iran's nuclear program nor is it a big deal. This is what the IAEA has been saying for several years now and the global community has heard it . In addition, Iran is only opting to provide fuel for its nuclear power plant and to develop a technology that would ensure its self reliance and dignity. Its no big deal when compared to the dozens of nuclear weapons that the Zionists regime wields , or the hundreds that the Americans and Russians hold today.

The sanctions and political pressures inflicted on Iran under this pretext are however a big deal. They have, for the past years, only resulted in a delay for democracy and economic growth for Iran. They have given a pretext for more radical elements to strengthen their rationale and to bring more pressure upon the civil society and restrict social and political freedoms. That does not mean we do not have political or social freedoms, which are a relative matter any how in any society, but it means that foreign pressures against Iran have not contributed to the democratic processes which have taken shape in the country.
Yesterday was the anniversary of the beginning of the reform government, there was no government recognition , reformist parties however did celebrate in various forms. Today, the country is celebrating the freedom of Khorramshar, a strategic port in south western Iran, from occupation under the Saddam aggression twenty four years ago. It was an historical feat performed by courageous young men who fought valiantly against an aggressor who was armed and encouraged by most western powers including particularly the American government. Iran won the war based on its faith and national capabilities , Saddam lost the war on the basis of its distance from its people and sheer dependence on foreign support.

for anybody familiar with the Human Rights violations and unjust laws of the IRI and the Iranian Judiciary system, this news is a HUGE deal!!!! it signals an unprecedented and unbelievable trend of perhaps REAL JUSTICE and "moderation"????!!!! can it be???

can it be that finally they are starting to treat men and women equally???
can it be that the blood of religious minorities in Iran is finally being considered to be as valuable as that of Muslims???

now, does this ALSO mean that finally perhaps, one day in a not so distant future, Iranians will see other JUST laws? for example, laws saying:
that when there's child abuse, a father will be punished with the same penalty as a mother?
that murdering one's child will get the murdering father the death-penalty TOO, the same way that it has been ONLY for the murdering mother all these years???

Dr. Ebtekar, if you can, please ask PressTV to report this in English as well, I think this is ONE news Iran should be boasting about!
a sign of REAL REFORMS emerging, finally!

  2. Dr. Ebtekar, i don't know whether you have had time yet to read the previous comment i wrote here about a promising new law that was recently passed in the Iranian Majlis (and awaits the vote of the Council of Guardians)? but if you have, please DO post it here for your readers to read! please do not censor things that might paint Iran as the less than perfectly JUST and democratic society it has really been so far! and if you are actually serious about helping the status of women and other minorities in your country, please let your fellow politicians know that by NOT addressing Human Rights issues, they are only delaying the advent of democracy and freedom in Iran. Thank you.

    as the old saying goes:
    "laa-pishooni o aaberoo-daari nang miyaareh"!
translation: trying to save face, only brings more dishonor!

i always knew, from the night my brother crossed the Iran-Turkey border to FREEDOM in 1987 (on foot, literally with his life in his hands), leaving his war-torn country after 7 years of its most bloody, dark, and despotic era in Iranian history (5 years of which could have been avoided if both sides had stopped the war after our troops' glorious recapturing of our land from the Hitler of our times Saddam, i.e., after the battle of Khorramshar), that if there was anybody on the other side, the so-called "FREE" side, the seemingly glittery and "rational" Western world, a person who could truly UNDERSTAND the plight of Iranian people, hear our cries, and sing OUR hearts out with his universal music and message of LOVE, that person would be our beloved Chris de Burgh, who sang "Hey boys tonight we get away", the song I danced to (as promised to my brother), as soon as my mom and I heard the news of his safe arrival on the other side of the Turkish border!!!
    :-)
Chris de Burgh is an honorary Iranian in all our hearts and minds!
Let's all sing: "The words I Love You"!

    Iran, doooooset daaram!

  4. in continuation of what i said earlier, ...

we Muslims are the ONLY ones who can truly wage a War on Terror, and disinfect our great religion from the stinking odor (booye ta'affon) of Osama BinLaden's heretical ideology of violence!
if we don't stand up and show the world what true Islam really is, if we don't educate the astray ones (zaalleen) among ourselves about the true teachings of God's last prophet, Hazrat-e Mohammad sallallah, then the term "War on Terror" becomes a tool in the hands of BinLaden's masters, al-Qaeda's creators (C.I.A), and their "zaalleen" uneducated gullible supporters like the wife of that killer who thinks she's doing God's work!!!!!!
in fact any Muslim woman who covers her face, should be told that she's falling victim to the anti-Islam tricks of al-Qeada's founders and supporters!!!
Islamic "hijab" as referred to in the Qoran, does not mean anything other than "covering a woman's cleavage"! as Muslims, we should all do our duty (amr-e be ma'roof, nahy-e az monkar) by telling these "zaalleen" misled women who cover themselves head-to-toe that they have gone astray, and that they should go read their Qoran more carefully!

    Down with fundamentalist radicalism!
Long Live Peace and Love among ALL of God's children, no matter what religion, no matter what race, even those without religion!

real Jihad is only to be waged against violent abusers of God's great religions, such as the Wahabi astray pseudo-Muslims (zaalleen) who have done nothing but deface, distort and dishonor Islam, the religion of Peace!
these should be the new slogans of faithful Iranians where ever they gather for demonstrations and protest against what they call "Western World's Hegemony" (estekbaar-e jahaani):
"marg bar Taliban" (Down with Taliban),
"marg bar al-Qaeda" (Down with al-Qaeda),
"marg bar mortaje'" (Down with Reactionary Fundamentalism)!"
    and not "marg bar Amrika!"!!!!

America is a nation who is going to send Barack Obama to its White House now! a nation who has seen the wrong ways of its past presidents, and is seeking real CHANGE! this is a nation who is determined to keep the legacy and the DREAM of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. alive! Iran needs to start trusting it, but not a day before Obama's inauguration! don't put your trust in the administration who used to support and do business with not only Saddam, but also the Taliban government of Afghanistan who killed Ahmad Shah Masoud!

  5. Dear Dr. Ebtekar,
again, this is not related to this post, but i just read an article that was disturbing to me, and felt obliged to remind your readers of the importance of fighting the great evil of Terrorism, and safeguarding our great religion from the assaults inflicted on it by a tiny minority of radical Muslims who have high-jacked it in recent years:

the great danger posed to Islam by these kinds of despicable "zaalleen", "gomraah" uneducated Muslim women (pro al-Qaeda wife of the killer of Ahmad Shah Masoud)
    http://www.iribnews.ir/Default.aspx?Page=politicalContent&news_num=154328

is why you HAVE TO make sure Iran's International Fatima Conference in Tehran (in August) this year, will be organized magnificently, and will also be extensively publicized and broadcast by ALL world media outlets! this is how the West's sinister plots of promoting Islamophobia and bashing our great Prophet and his message, can be foiled and countered effectively by the smart and faithful people of Iran!

we Muslims are the ONLY ones who can truly wage a War on Terror, and disinfect our great religion from the stinking odor (booye ta'affon) of Osama BinLaden's heretical ideology of violence!

"marg bar al-Qaeda" (Down with al-Qaeda),
"marg bar mortaje'" (Down with Reactionary Fundamentalism)!"

why? because al-Qaeda and Taliban have in fact been the very tools in the hands of those anti-Islam colonialists in the West, who for the past 4 decades have been abusing these uneducated minds to get them to promote a violent brand of Islam that is self-destructive to our true religion!

    so, dear Iranians, stop saying
"marg bar Amrika!", because America is a nation who is going to send Barack Obama to its White House now! a nation who has seen the wrong ways of its past presidents, and is seeking real CHANGE! this is a nation who is determined to keep the legacy and the DREAM of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. alive! Iran needs to start trusting it, but not a day before Obama's inauguration! don't put your trust in the administration who used to support and do business with not only Saddam, but also the Taliban government of Afghanistan who killed Ahmad Shah Masoud!
